Craig Collinson keeps up the 100% Record with Durango and dBoots

Filed under: News — Team Durango UK @ 11:38 am

This weekend saw the 3rd round of the Batley winter series held at Chadderton. With two TQ’s and wins at the previous rounds, Team Durango driver Craig Collinson was in strong contention for the overall Championship heading into round 3. The series is held over 6 rounds with your best 4 counting, so another win would really stamp Durango’s authority on claiming the series.

Chadderton Track

The weather in the UK has been really bad of late with snowfall affecting most areas. This weekend was no different which impacted the number of racers being able to attend. There were 9 heats in total for round 3, as apposed to the usual 13 seen at the previous two rounds, but all of the top drivers were present which would make the competition just as tough as the first two meetings.

The previous tyre of choice at Chadderton had been Schumacher minispikes, but this weekend Craig was testing the new dBoots tyres, which have already proved to be a success at the Team Durango winter series, held at Ardent Raceway. Nathan Waters TQ’d at the last meeting there, and Adam Skelding came away with the victory with both drivers using the dBoots tyres. Craig has also tasted success with the tyres at a local indoor club meeting at Bury Metro where he TQ’d and won. The surface there was a mixture of carpet and polished wooden floor. The tyres were generating that much grip you could actually hear them screeching!! The track at Chadderton is laid out on a cork type surface, being very similar to that of Worksop. This was an excellent opportunity to test the tyres on a completely different surface to what they’ve been used on before.

Qualifying saw Durango driver Craig Collinson put in some really quick runs with his DEX410 and the new dBoots, which were proving to be right on the pace. Craig was using the same set of tyres he’d used at the Bury Club meeting a week previous. They had already completed one round of practice, 5 qualifying rounds and a final before coming to Chadderton. The tyres do not seem to wear out quickly at all and there was no drop off in performance all day, in fact times were getting quicker and quicker as they wore in. This is great news for anyone wanting a set of tyres that will last 3-4 meetings as opposed to having to buy new ones every meeting, which is obviously quite costly. With 4 rounds of qualifying complete it was indoor specialist Richard Lowe who piped Craig for pole but the racing had been close all day, which would make for an interesting final.

The final saw most racers getting off to a clean start with Richard leading the way into the first corner and Craig right behind. Richard made an unusual and early error after only a few corners, which allowed Craig to take up the lead. Craig managed to pull out a small lead from Richard and the chasing pack but after a few laps it was Craig’s turn to make an error that needed marshalling. This error was looking costly as Richard closed the gap whilst the marshal attended to Craig’s car. Luckily for Craig the marshal was quick enough to put him back on his wheels just before Richard drove past. The rest of the race became an exciting two-way battle, with Richard pushing hard looking for an opening. Craig managed to hold his nerve taking every corner as tight as possible to defend his line which resulted in another great win for Craig, dBoots and Team Durango!!!

Well done Craig, from all at TD!
