The annual Cactus Classic race took place over the weekend of 18-20th March 2011 at Scottsdale RC Speedway in Arizona, USA.  Team Durango were in attendance with the DEX410, DEX210 prototype and newly released DESC410R Short Course truck. New Team Durango signing Travis ‘peanut’ Amezcua was wheeling the DEX410 and DEX210 prototype, both for the first time.

There were a total of four 2WD DEX210 prototypes in attendance, with Jörn Neumann, Hupo Hönigl, Billy Fischer and Travis Amezcua.  Some bad luck meant pole in the B final was the best result but with Jorn’s domination at the JBRL race the weekend before the guys are very pleased with the performance of the upcoming car which they tried in both rear and mid-motor configurations.

Jörn Neumann qualified 4th overall in the 4WD class with his DEX410 but had some bad luck in the finals. Some drivers were trying the new big-bore dampers that will be available soon for the 410 buggy as well as testing some other development parts.

In the PRO-4 Short Course class, Billy Fisher lead the Team Durango charge, placing 3rd on the grid with Hupo and Jörn in 4th & 5th respectively.  Team Durango designer Adam Skelding made the trip over to help the team and placed his SC truck 7th overall in qualifying to give Team durango a healthy 4 cars in the A-Main.

The Pro-4 SC was run over two legs with the average of the two giving the result.   In leg one, Hupo took the lead after a clash of wheels sent Maifield onto his roof – Hupo waited and lost the lead in the process.  A battle between team mates took place with Jörn and Hupo going nose-to-tail for a few laps before Jörn made a mistake and allowed Hupo to start chasing down the leader.  The gap closed but it wasn’t enough and Hupo finished second with Jörn 4th and Billy 5th. In the second leg, Jörn showed what he’s capable of and took the win with his DESC410R, Hupo finished 3rd.  Jörn’s win wasn’t quite enough to take the overall victory.

The team were impressed with the new DESC410R and felt they had the best car on the track  by far in this class so we can expect some good results in the coming months in this exciting new form of racing.
