LeHua Lin reports on the memorial race for Eugene Cheng, held at the KRC track in China.
Mourning the loss of one of the most respectful character for the RC community in China, and one of the early pioneers of off-road racing in China, 60 racers come together once again at the KRC track to pay tribute to Mr. Eugene Cheng, who was lost in a tragic accident exactly a month previous.
Being a personnel friend to Eugene, this race was very special to me. As we all believe a memorial race will be the best way to remember our best friend. To show our full respect, there were two classes being race today, namely the 1/8 GP Buggy and 1/10 4WD EP buggy, which both of them are the classes that Eugene enjoy the most.
The race began with a moment of silence, and the qualify start straight after that. We are all very please for there were so many people turn up for this special occasion with relatively a very short notice. I was determine to do well for this race and I knew it will mean a lot to Eugene since he is the one who had always been very helpful during my RC career.
My qualify were hamper by some traffic issues with the back markers, however I was very confident on my race pace, setting the fastest lap time along. Qualifying 2nd, the starting of the A-main were very clean and soon, I was fighting with the leader. My DNX-408 was running perfect, and the more time I spend with the chassis, the faster I am going. After a 45 minutes battle, I was able to clinch the 1st place, only 6 seconds ahead on the 2nd place finisher, which shows that the standard of my fellow racer are all improving at the same time as I do! All in all, a great race!
Since I was also one of the race organizer, I decide to sit out the 1/10 EP buggy race, and the race was also won by a Durango DEX-410 2010spec, driven by our friend Nelson Leung. It was also a clean sweep for the DEX-410 platform since the TQ+ Top 3 is all Durango’s!
I will love to dedicate this race result to Eugene, and my friend, you will be dearly miss.
