‘THE DIRT – Nitro Challenge’ event took place this past week – with nearly 700 entries spread across the many classes and three different tracks at THE DIRT venue.  Team Durango placed vehicles into the Pro A-Main of every class we have a car for – a great result for the team.

Carson Wernimont was the top Team Durango qualifier going straight into 5th on the grid for the A-Main. Ryan Lutz didn’t have a great time in qualifying – putting his DNX408 onto pole in the B-main. A solid run from Ryan saw him easily bump into the A – and a chance to race for the win.  A good start was compromised when another driver dove into him and sent Ryan to the back, but ever the professional, Ryan just drove his race and put in some of the fastest laps of the main to claw his way up to 5th by the end of the race.  It wasn’t what Ryan wanted but it was still a fantastic result. Carson dropped from his starting point but still finished 12th in the main.

Ryan Lutz was flying with the new production prototype Team Durango DNX408T truck, which was still new to him so he was getting to learn the truck. Still – a 2nd and 5th place in qualifying meant 5th on the grid for the main and a good shot at victory.

Ryan didn’t have the luck in his final when a screw in the suspension sheared off when Ryan came up short and crashed hard on the triple.  A quick repair later and Ryan was back on the track but after losing 4 laps to the break he couldn’t realisticly fight for the win and just worked on getting some fast laps – putting in the fastest lap of the race on lap 55.

Team Durango had three drivers in the A-main for 1/8th pro electric buggy – the new DEX408 proving to be a very capable platform. Ryan Lutz lined up in 6th, Billy Fischer 10th and Carson Wernimont 13th on the grid for the final.  Ryan had the worst luck after getting taken out he drove too hard to regain position and made too many mistakes.

Both Carson and Billy moved up in the 10 minute final, with Billy Fischer taking his DEX408 to 3rd overall, just 1 second behind Adam Drake in 2nd.  Carson finished 5th and whilst he was disapointed with 7th in the main, Ryan Lutz could again claim the fastest lap of the race.

Ryan Lutz took the top qualifier spot with his DESC410R and after a battle where the lead changed hands a couple of times, Ryan cleaned up his racing and didn’t look back – taking the win for Team Durango!
