2012 Sidewinder Nitro Explosion

Filed under: News — Stuart @ 2:42 pm

Last weekend saw the 2012 Sidewinder Nitro Explosion at ARC Raceway. Plenty of good drivers were there – Caveleri, Drake, Maifield, Wheeler, Peck, Amezcua and more. Carson Wernimont was there racing his Team Durango DNX408 and DNX408T, and reports below:

1/8th Truck
Truggy went pretty good. I didn’t have the best of luck in qualifying but still made the show qualifying 8th on the grid. On the start of the 45 minute A-Main I had a terrible first lap and got taken out by the same guy 5+ times! After finally getting some fresh air I was on a mission to go to the front. I started clicking off some good laps and before I knew it I was right behind Josh Wheeler for the 3rd position. I was able to make a move on Wheeler and get up to the 3rd. Cavileri broke while running in the second spot, moving me up to 2nd! I Started to pull away from Wheeler and with a lap to go I was a good 6+ seconds up on Wheeler and i crashed over a jump and the turn marshal was afraid to get my car! He waited for the whole field to go by before getting my car. By the time I got back on my wheels Josh was 3 seconds ahead of me and I couldn’t catch him with only half a lap to go, resulting in a third place finish.

1/8th Buggy
In the qualifiers I was able to run on pace with Maifield but I had a couple bobbles at the end of my runs putting me 8th overall going into the A-Mains. In the start of the main I was off to a good start but got punted by the guy behind me, putting me all the way to the back. My car was really good the whole race and I was able to get up to the 5th position and I was actually battling with Wheeler again for the 4th position but I had to make one extra pit stop which gave me no chance of catching him and I had to settle for the 5th position.

Team Durango driver Victor Guerrero took the TQ and finished 3rd in sportsman buggy with his DNX408.
